Total Eclipse viewing party to be held at Complex Monday

The Sikeston Recreation Complex will be filled with people Monday, for a Total Eclipse viewing party.

The viewing party will begin at noon and continue until 2:30 p.m., with the Total Eclipse set for 1:58 p.m.

There will be plenty of events happening at the Complex.

  • Reid Howell with KYMO Radio (105.3) will have live radio programming and an eclipse countdown at the Clinton Building.
  • Also at the Clinton Building will be a NASA information booth with giveaways.
  • The Citizen C.A.T.E. Science Booth will also be set up with telescope viewing and eclipse activities. C.A.T.E. 2024 will deploy more than 35 identical stations run by community participants along the path of totality to capture a 60-minute move of the inner solar corona in polarized light. Sikeston was chosen to be one of those communities.
  • 9 Holes to Go Mini Golf will also be set up at the Complex as will food trucks, Wade on It and Frozen Scoops.
  • A concession stand will be open in the Complex and the City of Sikeston will have a booth set up at the Clinton Building giving away free popsicles.

For those coming to the Complex, please do not park in the grass and if putting up a tent, please don’t anchor it with tent stakes.

There are other viewing opportunities around Sikeston for those who may not want to fight the crowds at the Complex.

  • There will be Scoping the Skies telescope viewing in Historic Downtown Sikeston with telescopes set up in the Depot parking lot and the Sikeston Public Library parking lot.
  • There will also be viewing at Three Rivers College, located at 1400 S. Main Street along with near the Complex at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Grounds (1220 N. Ingram), Sikeston First Assembly Park/Softball field parking lot and Bootheel Golf Club (1218 N. Ingram).
