Businesses encouraged to take part in Stampede Week

(July 27) -- Sikeston businesses are being asked to show their support for this year’s rodeo by taking part in Stampede Week.

Stampede Week is a chance for businesses to win a Rodeo sponsorship package while also showing the rodeo spirit to those coming into the community for the rodeo.

This year the competition will move away from live action and skits and focus more on visibility, encouraging businesses to do things to draw attention from the many visitors who come to town for the rodeo. This year’s theme is Celebrating Rodeo Roots and Boots.

Stampede Week is invited into three events, with the first being Western Wear. This event is doable for any size business. Decide when your business wants to dress in western wear and take a photo with your business logo/sign. Then submit that photo by noon on Tuesday, Aug. 8, to taylor.deere@sikeston.net. Pictures will be shared on the Sikeston Rodeo Facebook page and will be voted on by their over 40,000 followers.

Round 2 will be storefront decorations. Businesses are encouraged to chalk or paint their windows, switch out their electric signs to something rodeo related, or hang photos and banners. Anything to draw attention while the many visitors are in town for rodeo week. Judging will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Businesses are strongly encouraged to leave their storefronts decorated through Sunday of Rodeo Week.

Round 3 is new this year and will be rodeo trivia. On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Sikeston Chamber will bring a team around to your business to film and quiz you on past and present Sikeston rodeo knowledge. The trivia can be one person answering or a group. Anyone who participates gets a rodeo history book as a souvenir.

Stampede Week is free to enter and those who signup before July 28 receives an additional point. The registration deadline is Aug. 5.
