Sikeston City Council actions July 1, 2024

Actions from the Sikeston City Council meeting held Monday, July 1, 2024, were:

  • Council approved a new Economic Development Incentive rate for used to entice new industry or promote growth of existing industry. The previous Economic Incentive rate, that was in place for five years, expired Dec. 31, 2023. The new rate will be in place for two years with the option to renew.
  • Council awarded the city’s workers’ compensation broker services to Higginbothom. Five bids were received and three made presentations to staff and the professional consulting committee. Higginbothom was found to have a wealth of resources, training and knowledge specifically that would be beneficial to the City of Sikeston and has been providing the city and Sikeston BMU with training resources for the past two years to help the city improve. Higginbothom was found to be proactive and quick to respond and was able to help the city and BMU save money in various ways.
  • Council approved the purchase of a new vehicle for Community Development. The department has $50,000 budgeted for the vehicle in the 2025 fiscal year budget.
