Sikeston City Council actions June 24, 2024

Actions from the Sikeston City Council meeting held June 24, 2024, were:

  • Council heard the first reading of a bill that introduces a new Economic Development Incentive rate used to entice new industry or promote growth of existing industry. The previous Economic Incentive rate, that was in place for five years, expired Dec. 31, 2023. The new rate, if approved, will be in place for two years with the option to renew. Council will vote on the bill at the next meeting.
  • Council approved the surplus of two Sikeston Department of Public Safety vehicles, both 2018 Ford F150 units, to trade them for two newer vehicles.
  • Council approved the purchase of two 2024 Ford F-150 trucks from Joe Machens Ford Lincoln for $102,898 and use remaining budgeted dollars included in the FY2025 budget to outfit them with necessary equipment. DPS is adding the surplus of two vehicles (see previous item) to add to the purchase. Joe Machens authorized the trade amount of $21,000, bringing the total price to $81,898.
  • Council also approved the purchase of two 2024 Dodge Durangos from Landmark Dodge at the price of $85,964 and use remaining dollars to outfit them with necessary equipment included in the FY2025 budget. The cars will be added to the patrol fleet and replace vehicles that will soon be surplused.
  • Council authorized Sikeston DPS to continue service with Motorola for the body worn camera program. Currently, Sikeston DPS has 32 body worn cameras to outfit all uniformed patrol officers assigned to Patrol Division. The new service would be a five-year plan to ensure officers are equipped with their newest hardware and that the hardware is covered under full warranty. The first year of the contract, which includes some additional accessories for the new cameras, will cost $23,231. The remaining four years will each be billed at the cost of $19,711 for a grand total of $102,075. These are budgeted items and the cost comes in under budget.
