  • Council approved a bill calling for a general election to be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 to elect a mayor, councilman Ward 2 and councilman Ward 3 for three-year terms. Incumbents Greg Turnbow (mayor), Vest Baker (Ward 2 councilman) and David Teachout (Ward 3 councilman) all filed for re-election and will be on the ballot unopposed.
  • Council approved a bill that creates a city code regarding the number of terms a board member can serve on the Library Board. Under the new code, library board members can serve three consecutive full terms and then not be eligible to be reappointed until two years after the expiration of the third term. This new code matches the state statute.

Sikeston DPS currently has a 911 operating budget of $824,143, so they would receive $412,071.50 annually. The payments will be made quarterly in the amount of $103,017.87.
  • The next Sikeston City Council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2024.
