POSITION: Recreation Lead (part-time)
The City of Sikeston is seeking applications for part-time Recreation Lead in the Public Works Department. This position will involve mostly evenings and some weekends and will assist in the planning, implementation and supervision of recreational activities, events and programs, volunteers and staff. They will provide guidance to subordinates regarding planning, scheduling and assignment of duties within all leisure service areas while monitoring assigned programs for sale and efficient operation. They will oversee lesson or program plans and complete and enter program registrations when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be an energetic, creative, self-starting individual that pays attention to detail and displays professionalism with the public.

Responsibilities: Assists in the planning implementation and supervision of recreational activities and events, volunteers and staff. Provides guidance to subordinates regarding planning, scheduling and assignment of duties within all leisure service areas. Monitors assigned programs for safe and efficient operation. Interacts with program participants and seeks feedback. Oversees lesson or program plans (activities, crafts, guest speakers, programs, and events). Completes and enters program registrations when needed. May assist with daily records, attendance sheets, incident reports and accident reports. Assists in scheduling and evaluation of volunteers. Handles public concerns, problems, or suggestions in a calm and professional manner. Creates promotional items and materials. Assists as needed for the purchasing of supplies for recreation programs or events, including traveling to purchase supplies in a personal vehicle. Regular attendance is essential for this position as scheduled. Some clerical and office duties may be required.
Essential Functions of Job: Ability to perform work out-of-doors in all weather conditions with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 F; ability to sit, stand, crawl, kneel, twist, stoop, and climb for extended periods of time; ability to pull, push, lift and/or carry objects up to 50 lbs.; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to hear standard equipment alarms (buzzers, beepers, etc.). Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to complete written reports as assigned. Must possess ability to work in an environment containing dust, pollen and bodies of water. Must be comfortable working with and around children.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Job Requirements: Must possess excellent written and verbal skills. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions. Must exhibit tact and courtesy when dealing with public and co-workers. Upon appointment or by end of probation period, must reside within a thirty (30) mile radius of Sikeston City Limits. Must maintain active landline or cellular telephone. May be required to work irregular hours, as needed.
Equipment Used or Operated: Communication radios, sports equipment pertaining to basketball, soccer, football and tball.
Employment Preconditions: Applicant shall be required to submit to physical fitness testing, and drug and alcohol screening prior to employment and at any time during employment.
