Any person desiring to become a candidate for council member shall file with the City Clerk within the time prescribed by ordinance a statement of such candidacy .  (City Code 107.040-107.050)

To be eligible for election, all candidates must be a qualified voter of Sikeston, and be at least 21 years of age.  Ward candidates must be a resident of the ward for which they are filing for a period of at least 1 year immediately prior to the last day to file for election.  Mayoral and at-large candidates must have been a resident of the City for at least 1 year immediately prior to their election.

Individuals interested in filing for a Council position must complete (1) a Declaration of Candidacy Form and (2) a Candidate's Afidavit of Tax Payments and Bonding Requirements and submit it to Carroll Couch, Sikeston City Clerk, 105 E.
