Color Run Saturday at the Sikeston Complex

5K Color Run Saturday at Complex

Sikeston Parks and Recreation Youth Advisory Council will hold their first fundraiser Saturday with the 5K Color Run.

The Youth Advisory Council was started in 2022 as a way for Sikeston Parks and Recreation to give input on programs that youth were excited about.

“We formed a Board after an application process for anybody from 7th to 12th grade to come to monthly meetings to discuss the activities and/or ideas they’d like to see generated through Parks and Rec,” said Abbi Lindsey, recreation coordinator for Sikeston Parks and Recreation. “Their first idea was the host the 5K Color Run as a fundraiser to start their ‘nest egg’ of funds to go toward additional events and their startup costs and overhead or to eventually fund an actual project.”

Lindsey said the Council has yet to decide on a project.

Officers of the Youth Advisory Council are: Anabeth Baker (president), Jax Lancaster (vice president), Baylee Copeland (secretary), Chloe Lin (treasurer) and Heidi Self (event coordinator). There are also 20 regular board members that do not hold an officer position.

The 5K Color Run will be on Saturday at the Complex. The route will wind through the Complex and runners can go at their own pace. At each kilometer mark, runners will be showered with different color powder.

Runners are encouraged to wear white so the colors will show up brightly. Runners are also encouraged to wear a bandana and/or sunglasses to keep the powder out of their nose, mouth, and eyes.

Check-in/registration will be from 7:45-8:30 a.m. at the pavilion located between the Clinton Building and the Complex Lake. The run will start at 9 a.m.

The cost is $30 per person and can be paid in cash or check in person or by credit card online at bookeo.com/sikestonparksandrec. There is a no-refund policy and anyone under the age of 18 will need a parental signature.

Sponsors for the event are: First State Bank and Trust, Sam’s Fine Jewelry, The UPS Store, YMCA of Southeast Missouri, Sterling Pharmacy, Farm Credit of Southeast Missouri, and Baker Farms. (April 20, 2023)
