Council Actions - March 5, 2018

During last night’s Council meeting, the following actions were taken:
A.  Council conducted the first reading of Bill #6086, which amends the Taxicab Services.  In addition to displaying the proper signage on taxicabs, background checks will also be required for any person desiring to secure a license to operate a taxicab in the City of Sikeston. 
B.  Council awarded the mowing bids for parks/streets to the following:
Cox Lawn Service, Jim and Jay Cox, Co-Owners – Allen Boulevard: $105.00; Davis Boulevard: $105.00; Industrial Park: $410.00; Plantation Boulevard: $123.00

In addition, we requested bids from the vendors for an “emergency mowing” quote – an hourly rate to mow derelict properties on which Code Enforcement has received complaints with a response time of two business days.  Walters Lawn Care bid $40 per hour and will be first on the call list.
C.  Council approved emergency Bill #6090 which authorized the Board of Municipal Utilities to purchase a tract of land from Holly Elizabeth Moore and Kell Lee Mikel, IV for future water plant needs and authorization to execute these documents.
D.  DPS Director Williams briefed Council about replacing the roof at Fire Station #2 due to extensive leaking.  They received a bid of $12,675.00 from Riverside Roofing Company out of Cape Girardeau, MO to replace the roof and dispose of debris.  Council authorized Riverside Roofing Company to replace the roof in the amount of $12,675.00 contingent upon proof of prevailing wages.
E.  Other Items:
Buzz Ferrell spoke to Council about junk and trash complaints and rental property issues in the 800 block of Vernon.  Council informed Mr. Ferrell this would be looked into and they would let him know of their findings.
There being no other items, the meeting was adjourned into Executive Session for Property.
