During yesterday’s Council meeting, the following actions were taken:
A. Council will consider the approval to purchase high school soccer, softball and baseball scoreboards contingent upon receiving a memo of understanding from the Sikeston Public Schools which indicate their pledge to pay $2,000 over 5 years to the City of Sikeston to help toward the funding of the scoreboards.
B. Bill #6073, Authorizing the Installation of Stop Signs on North West Street at Wakefield Avenue was not approved due to the lack of a second motion of approval.
C. Bill #6078 was approved by Council which authorized the subdivision request at Wing Lake Estates, 2nd Addition from Waters Engineering.
D. Conducted 1st Reading of Bill #6079 which calls for the general election on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 for electing Council representatives for Ward 2, Ward 3 and Mayor.
E. Conducted 1st Reading of Bill #6077 which updates the zoning codes for group homes in the City of Sikeston to include a reasonable accommodation policy by which a disabled individual may request a reasonable accommodation relating to land use or zoning rules and also reduces the minimum distance restriction between group homes to 500 feet.
F. Conducted 1st Reading of Bill #6080 which establishes no parking on south side of Center Street between Kingshighway and Moore Avenue. This request came from Ralph Sexton, owner of Ralphs Hair Center, due to the traffic issues in front of his business and Quick Chek 2.
G. Conducted 1st Reading of Bill #6081 for the removal of No Parking Signs on Kingshighway in front of DPS Headquarters.
H. Council authorized the purchase of castings for the column bases at City Hall from Century Brass Works in the amount of $27,742. Delivery will take approximately 12 weeks.
I. Executive Session (Personnel) was cancelled.
