During the April 17 meeting of the City Council, the following actions were taken:
Councilman-elect Brian Self was sworn into office. He will serve as an at-large representative for an initial term ending in April 2020.
Ryan Merideth was elected by his fellow Council members to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Should Mayor Burch be absent or unable to serve, Merideth will fulfill the duties of mayor.
Gerald Settles, Jon Gilmore and Brian Self were selected to serve on the Professional Consulting Committee. They will review and make recommendation on the award of all contracts, exceeding $10,000 for services performed by architects, engineers, municipal planners, attorneys, and other professionals.
Ryan Merideth was selected to represent Council on the Liquor License Review Board. This body hears appeals of city liquor license suspensions or revocations.
Members of Council often work with City staff on specific projects related to municipal operations. During their April 17 meeting the following Council appointments were made:
Planning & Zoning Commission - Gerald Settles and Brian Self; BMU Board of Commissioners – Gerald Settles; DED Executive Board – Steven Burch, Ryan Merideth and Jon Gilmore; Library Board of Trustees – Karen Evans; Housing Authority Board – Mary White-Ross; LCRA Commission - Mary White-Ross; Park Board – Brian Self; DPS Advisory Board – Karen Evans; Tourism Advisory Board – Brian Self and Ryan Merideth; Stormwater Management Board – Gerald Settles; and Capital Improvements Evaluation Committee – Gerald Settles.
Council completed the second reading and adopted Bill 6051. This measure authorizes the closing on 265 acres for a new industrial park. Council also completed the first reading of Bill 6056 which amends an existing redevelopment agreement to clarify the categories of project costs eligible for reimbursement.
In other actions the Council, recognizing the services of the Strategic Plan Implementation Commission are not needed at this time, deactivated the commission. Council also appointed Charlotte York to an interim term on the Park Board created by the election of Brian Self to the City Council.
