The Sikeston Department of Public Safety Fire Division, is one of two major divisions that makes up the department.  The division is responsible for providing fire protection, motor vehicle rescue services, hazardous material mitigation and technical rescues within the City of Sikeston.  It also has an agreement to provide these services within the Sikeston Fire Protection District.  The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is a partner with Jackson Fire and Rescue, Cape Girardeau Fire and Rescue and Stoddard County Ambulance Service to form the Region E Homeland Security Response Team.  This team is the primary responder to hazardous materials, water rescues and any technical rescues in the Southeast Missouri Region. This team is also deployable nation wide which makes the department more applicable to receive grant funding.

Responding to an average of 950 in town calls for service annually, our firefighters work one of nine 24-hour shifts for each 28-day cycle.  They man three separate firehouses strategically located within the city. Public Safety Headquarters serves as the administrative office. Station One serves as the Fire Marshal Office and training facility for the Department of Public Safety. Fire Station Two serves as the main station and Lt. Haskin office. Fire Station Three serves as the airport and aircraft standby station.

Community Involvement
The City of Sikeston Fire Division has an ongoing Fire Safety program through the Fire Marshall and the crews.  Our participation in the "Fill the Boot" Campaign has been very successful having some the highest donations in the area over the years. The crews also participate in several events every year with one being our annual  9-11 memorial walk through town.

Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week is held every fall, and the Sikeston Fire Division has a number of activities during this time to help inform the community about fire safety. Our program encompasses the traditional elements such as "Stop, Drop & Roll" as well as some modifications.  Firefighters wearing bunker gear with self-contained breathing apparatus can sometimes be frightening to young children so we visit schools bringing both the fire truck and officers in full turn-out gear to familiarize children with what they may see should they be involved in a fire emergency.

FireRescueRescue Services
The City of Sikeston's three Fire Stations provide full emergency, fire and rescue services which include vehicle extrication, confined space rescue, structural collapse rescue, trench rescue, search and rescue , high angle or rope rescue and water rescues.  The division has7 sets of extrication tools enabling members to respond to several incidents simultaneously.
